General Species Information

Host Plant:  Pisonia aculeata [Nyctaginaceae]

​

Historical Range: Keys, Central America, Cuba and the Bahamas

​

Our Experience with this Species: Howard Grisham took one specimen of this species on Key Largo in 2008 and was not seen until over 70 individuals were found on Big Pine Key and No Name Key on May 19th, 2017. These specimens have all been females. Males may be diurnal. This species is heavily dimorphic. Males have large patches of wing that have no scales and are brown on outer edges and are smaller than females.
