    Freshly emerged male

    Description: This is a large bright orange butterfly with dark brown banding accross the wings on the dorsal side. Ventral side is brown with cream colored banding. Females are more brownish orange in color.

     

    Habitat and Distribution: Central and South America

     

    Host Plant: Passion Vines (Passiflora sps.)

     

    Natural History: This species was reported from the Keys the 1930's but has not shown up since then.
