Description: 28-33 mm. This species is bright yellow with black margins and this black cloloration on the forewing shows the appearance of a face of an animal. The forewings are pointed rather than rounded. Females are more pale in color than males. 

 

Habitat and Distribution: While this butterfly used to be found locally in South Florida, we have not seen any in over 25 years along the east coast. Reports from the Keys have not been confirmed.  It should be considered a non-resident of the Keys
