Description: 24-27 mm. This is a very large skipper. It is brown in color with a golden band on the forwings

 

Habitat and Distribution: Zestos skippers fly in tropical hardwood hammocks and perch along trails and openings. They have been reported from every month accept January in the Keys

 

Host Plant: Galactia striata

 

Natural History: This species was once common throughout the Keys and southern mainland of Florida. A rapid decline began to occur in the 70's and we have not heard of any confirmed sightings since the late 90's however they can still be found throughout the Caribbean.
